NATIONAL – Many of these funds come from prioritized investments in coal country, a region that has economically struggled for decades. These shortsighted and drastic changes undermine bipartisan efforts in the region to dream big.

The federal resources have started to bring back hope to the region. Undermining them directly harms communities in Appalachia and wastes years of local leadership and innovation to build a brighter future for Appalachia. These orders would devastate ongoing efforts to build resilient, sustainable economies in Appalachian energy communities.

Our work is bipartisan. Every day Appalachian communities work across political differences to find common ground, rebuild our economies, update dangerous, outdated infrastructure and create a stronger foundation for the future.

Our colleagues work tirelessly to diversify Appalachia’s local economies and create new opportunities for workers hit hard by the downturn of the coal industry. The passion, grit, and long term dedication to our towns has been heartening. It’s, frankly, incredibly sad to see all that work undermined.
