OHIO – July 8, at the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition Office in Marietta, Ohio – A partnership of Appalachian organizations and manufacturing experts will convene a diverse array of stakeholders to discuss the development of a regional action plan for boosting employment and competitiveness in the sector.
As part of its Summer 2026 Manufacturing Roadshow Discussion Series, ReImagine Appalachia and the American Manufacturing Communities Collaborative (AMCC) are touring Appalachian states to accelerate sustainable, advanced manufacturing in the Ohio River Valley region of Appalachia. The partnership will deliver the latest asset-based research and guiding theories of change while gathering feedback from local manufacturing partners and stakeholders.
The Marietta, Ohio, event will be cosponsored by Rural Action and the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturing Coalition. Additional Ohio River Valley of Appalachia stops, in partnership with Coalfield Development and Catalyst Connection, will take place in Huntington, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Event topics will include strategies for strengthening local workforce pipelines and industry competitiveness. The event will also cover opportunities to turn liabilities into assets in Ohio, such as extracting minerals from acid mine drainage for use in manufacturing battery components. The goal is to collaborate across the region to find sound economic solutions to diversify the region’s economy, tackle structural unemployment, and build future career paths for Appalachia’s young people.
