Thursday Dec. 3rd 11 am ET via Zoom

This webinar is a sequel to our earlier webinar and report: Catching Heat: The Opportunities and Challenges of Using Waste Heat from Appalachian AI Data Centers.
In this event we’ll focus specifically on the possibilities of the surplus heat from data centers for greenhouses. A commercial greenhouse might see 80% of their costs coming from heating – if that can be provided for free from the waste heat from data centers, that could be a win for local food resilience.
The webinar will dig into the specifics of what these greenhouse operations adjacent to data centers could look like, and include presentations on recent research from Resource Innovation Institute (RII) including their recent GO Virginia funded report titled Colocating Data Centers and Greenhouses that shows how this technology could be piloted in the United States.
We’ll also be joined by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) to provide context for how local policy can help bring these technologies to developments proposed in the region.
Speakers will include:
- Derek Smith, Executive Director of Resource Innovation Institute (RII)
- Rob Eddy, Horticulturist for Resource Innovation Institute
- Dr. Dale Medearis is a senior regional planner for the Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC)
