APPALACHIA – On Thursday, May 14, 1 PM ET via Zoom, ReImagine Appalachia will host a webinar to release a new report outlining the scope and impact of the Trump administration’s downsizing and dismantlement of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). With billions in funding stripped from the agency, states are being forced to dip into reserves to mitigate increasing natural disasters that devastate communities and claim lives.
This report comes shortly after a judge ordered FEMA to restart the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program (BRIC) on March 6, 2026; FEMA has since released a notice of funding opportunity on March 25, 2026 with $1 billion available to help states and communities fund proactive hazard-mitigation projects.
The webinar will include information on the latest updates to the BRIC program and the upcoming funding opportunity.
