APPALACHIA – August 27, at 1pm ET via Zoom, the Appalachian Flood Resilience Coalition will host a virtual event on how to strengthen regional flood resilience through nature-based hazard mitigation strategies.
Appalachia’s landscape, including our steep slopes and history of industrial activities, have made our communities uniquely vulnerable to flooding. Restoring and protecting the landscape, including via investments in nature-based solutions, are needed to better protect Appalachian communities. This webinar will explore the problems that need to be addressed, discuss effective nature-based solutions, and feature communities who have begun to implement these ideas at the local level.
The event is coordinated by coalition partners including ReImagine Appalachia, Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center, and National Wildlife Federation. Speakers will discuss community efforts currently underway to strengthen riparian buffers (water absorbent plant patches), and how, with the right resources, investment, and partnership, these efforts can be scaled to improve regional safety.
