These fact sheets explain the federal tax credits for solar (and wind), including how they work and what types of projects still have time to qualify before they expire.

Learn how the projects so far undertaken, including those at schools, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations, can still take advantage of the federal clean energy investment tax credits and save anywhere from 30 to 70% of total project costs. This document also examines two policy proposals in these three Appalachian states that can accelerate the growth of solar even after the federal tax credits expire: community solar and balcony solar.

May 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET via Zoom – This webinar highlighted findings from new Keystone Research Center research and companion state fact sheets tracking the rapid growth of solar energy across Appalachia – Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia – and what it will take to keep that momentum going.

With deadlines shortened under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA), the window to secure Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credits is rapidly narrowing. This session explained which types of projects across the region can still qualify, reviewed real-world examples of successful solar installations, and outline practical policy recommendations and next steps to maximize remaining federal incentives and sustain solar deployment as federal credits begin to phase down.
