January 16, 2026
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January (January 19th, 2026) in honor of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an African-American pastor and major leader in the civil rights movement until his assassination in 1968. He believed in using the power of words and nonviolent community action to advocate for justice and equality in America, principles that are more important than ever today. We celebrate MLK Jr. Day around the country as a day to honor his life and legacy.
