The Ohio River Valley Institute (ORVI) joined us to share preliminary findings on a new report that shows that the huge number of workers that will be needed in Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to address methane emissions under new EPA methane monitoring regulations, the Inflation Reduction Act’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program (MERP), and to plug and restore oil and gas wells in the four states. This work will include jobs created from cutting methane via the EPA rule such as leak detection and inspection of well sites, compressor stations, storage tanks, replacing pneumatic devices, and to plug orphaned and low-producing wells. Greg Cumpton, PhD who authored a similar report for the Texas Climate Jobs Project, and Ted Boettner with the Ohio River Valley Institute are the lead authors of the report.
