APPALACHIA – On Tuesday, ReImagine Appalachia and partners hosted a grant-making assistance webinar to help applicants for round two of the medium- and large-scale RISE PA industrial decarbonization program strengthen their proposals to access the $52 billion pot of available funding. The event convened RISE PA staff members, labor leaders, and community benefits experts to explain eligibility requirements, share resources from the state, and help applicants maximize eligibility for project bonuses.

“This program is nothing if not transparent and accessible to people. They want proposals, they want them to be good, they don’t want people to be confused by the application.” – Stephen Herzenberg, Economist and Co-Director of ReImagine Appalachia.

During the event, awardees of the first round of funding were invited to discuss their experience navigating the application.

“We felt really supported throughout the process, we’re super honored to and excited to have participated in round one, and obviously it was a positive experience if we’re going to try again for round two.” Said Julie Shuff, awardee for round one of the RISE PA grant.

This event also previewed an in-person gathering in Pittsburgh on June 25th, where applicants will have the chance to interact with past-round awardees and receive more in-depth technical assistance on their applications.

Speakers included:

  • Catherine Tulley, RISE PA Environmental Group Manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
  • Carlos Claussel, Manager, Climate, Community Benefits and Social Impact at the World Wildlife Fund
  • Stephen Herzenberg, Co-Executive Director at ReImagine Appalachia
  • James Kunz III, Pennsylvania Foundation for Fair Contracting
