APPALACHIAIn response to the Trump Administration’s decision to revoke the endangerment finding that led to the regulation of dangerous greenhouse gases, Dana Kuhnline, Campaign Manager of ReImagine Appalachia, issued the following statement:

“The Trump Administration’s decision to revoke the EPA’s endangerment finding represents a dangerous step backward for Appalachian communities already suffering from climate change impacts. Our region has experienced devastating flooding and increasingly severe weather events that have destroyed homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

“Climate impacts are not a matter of if, but when. Ignoring the problems caused by greenhouse gas emissions will not make them go away.  A clear-eyed approach could allow our communities to respond to this crisis and create new opportunities to rebuild our economies, create jobs, make our communities healthier, and repair our land. Instead, this reckless action will only increase the vulnerability of our communities to climate disasters while offering no real economic benefits.

“ReImagine Appalachia stands with the scientific consensus that greenhouse gases threaten public health and welfare. We need policies that both protect our communities from climate disasters and create sustainable economic opportunities in the clean energy economy—not dangerous deregulation that leaves Appalachian families more exposed to extreme weather events.”
